Today's #TBT is in honor to my dad's birthday month. Here are some photos with him. First one at a very young age (maybe 3, who knows), then on my 15th birthday and then on his birthday last week.

My dad called early to invite us to eat pizza. I haven't break my diet in the last couple of months, but I was not going to keep my girls from spending quality time with their grandpa.

He showed up with my nephew and took us to a pizzeria that is close by. To be honest, my girls hardly ever go to a pizzeria. Why? Because when we want to order something in the house, pizza is always the way to go. So, if we go out to eat, I normally try to get something else.

Needless to say, they were thrilled. They ate their pizza with pizza and all.

My dad's eyes were sparkling, just as every time he is with my girls... It's a delight to see.

And I LOVE LOVE LOVE this pic... Even my nephew is smiling which he hardly ever does on a picture. Wish my other nephew were in this picture, but I will make that happen sooner than later...

This year we spent Christmas Eve at my dad's with his family.

My dad adores my girls and he's always looking to spend time with them.  When I RSVP'd to him, I was able to hear the excitement on his voice.

It's hard to communicate with him because of the remnants of the stroke he had several years ago but the girls can understand him perfectly fine and it is just a lovely sight when they are together.

The girls have been begging me to use a face painting set that I purchased forever ago and I just couldn't say no.  I knew it was going to get messy but I didn't care.

I'm sooo glad I agreed because they had a blast! My dad doesn't know how to say no to them and they painted ALL OVER him.  He laughed in a way that I don't think I have ever seen him before.  It was this kind of laugh that comes with JOY.  Even my nephew got to pain him and the job was mostly done by him and Mimi.

Here is a picture with my girls and daddy...

After we got home, and after a major shower because of the paint, they got into their pj's and got the cookies and milk ready for Santa.

And here you can see Santa's lefovers and message to the girls... He even arranged some of the tags that the girls got on each one of their gifts... So thoughtful of him.

The last time that my father in law came to visit us was in 2006. The following year, Gaby went to NJ to see them, but Camila and Mimi didnt. This means that he is meeting Mimi now for the first time, but also that he is meeting the real Camila as she was only 3 months old when he came in 2006.

Last year, when he took vacations from his work, we begged him to come and visit us, but he decided to visit his mom, sisters and other families in Ecuador... He had tons of years without seeing them, so he did.

He is VERY playful and rough, which is why Gaby and him alwayshave so much fun... However, Camila loves rough play way more than Gaby, and we always told him how much he was missing out because he havent actually met Camila... He really had no idea of how real that was until he got here... Just as everybod suspected, they are getting along just perfect...

Today was my grandpa's viewing and we were all very sad... At 3pm a mass was held, and after the mass my mom and then my uncle said a few words... My mom is not the person that you will usually see talking about her feelings and it was very touchy to hear her talking about how she lost "her baby". He was truly her baby as she was her primary caretaker, and he wasnt able to talk, was in diapers, needed 24/7 assistance, and my mom slept by his side for the last 9.5 months since he moved to her house.

My grandfather was an exceptional person, and all the people that were there couldnt agree more with my mom and uncle words about how any of us have ever met a person like him. He was a very tolerant man than never say a word to hurt a person, that always knew when to talk and what were the right words to say. Nobody ever heard hateful words from his mouth, and even in hard times he never ever complained about anything...

He was over 80 years old when he was still working on his own business and making his own money... My uncles, aunt and mom begged him for years to move to his town and to take care of him, but he always refused and continued working until he couldnt say no anymore... It was around 10 years ago when they convinced him and move him to this town in an apartment...

At that moment he had no real illness except for mild hearing loss because of the age, but always having smart things to say about everything that you said... He was also a very healthy person and he walked and walked and walked on the city that he was living until he move to this town to EVERY PLACE he needed to go... No cars, no nothing... Walking was his best friend, which kept him VERY healthy his whole life...

He was the kind of person that didnt had ANY difference with people doesnt matter the color of the skin, religion or social status... He treated the same to the President and to the kid cleaning shoes in the streets... And it was truly like that.... He always had a smile on his face, and was an exceptional grandfather and dad... I dont think there is one person in the world that ever met him that wasnt touched by him somehow...

At 9+pm I received the phone call that I was hoping not to received for a long time... My oldest brother was at my mom's house because he is doing a master in our town every Saturday, and he has been spending the night at my mom's house every Friday...

He called me to let me know that my grandpa passed away. He passed full of peace, and Im very thankful that he didnt suffered.

Hubby and I were crushed and we comforted each other... Hubby has been very close to him and he loved him as his own grandpa... The girls were already asleep, and hubby told me that it was Ok for me to go to my mom's by myself...

So, I went to my mom's house and said good bye to my grandpa... My mom sat by his side until the people from the funeral home came to pick him up... My aunt and one of my uncles went out to buy the box to bury him, while another one of my aunts and me were trying to come up with the wording for the newspaper ad. Another of my uncles went to his house to pick up a suit for my grandpa to wear... Everybody was doing something, and trying to hold on with the huge pain that was in our hearts...

I had more doctors appointments today, and we spent more time at my mom's house... Grandpa wasnt able to get up to go to the bathroom, and hubby helped my mom to held his 6 feet body to the bathroom... Today I spent more time with my grandpa mostly because the nurse called me several times for help...

I had the chance to talk to him a lot, and touch him, and give him lots of love... Today I even helped to change his diaper (he was able to go to the bathroom, but he was still using diapers *for accidents*).

UPDATE: This was the last time that I saw him alive, and Im soo happy that I got to have so much quality time this day.

Today my grandpa was released from the hospital... He is still sick, but there was no need to keep him in the hospital any longer if he gets the same atentions at home with the nurses and my mom... He also has ALL the equipment needed at home.

We have been spending tons of time at my mom's house for the past 2 weeks, and it is so nice to have him back!!

Today we had a huge scared with my grandpa... Some of you may remember that he had a Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy for him to be able to be fed by a tube on his stomach, instead of his nose... That was 7 months ago, and everything was working just fine...

I had a doctor appointment today, and my mom's maid was taking care of the girls for one hour while hubby picked them up... Hubby misunderstood, and picked me up first. That is one of the things that we are more thankful after what happened later.

We got to my mom's house and hubby was bathing the girls in case they got home sleeping... My mom also got there... It was 7pm already, and the nurse that takes care of my grandpa during the day was almost leaving (she is there from 8am to 8pm). I was on the phone talking to one of my cousins, and suddenly the nurse starts screaming frenetically for my mom. She was on the other bathroom with my grandpa and he pull out the tube... We were told that he could actually die if that happens...

All of us ran to the bathroom... My grandpa got very scared and confused and hubby grabbed him firmly while my nurse started to do what she had to do... My mom started giving her everything that she needed, and I was making the calls my mom was asking me to do...

There is something about my grandpa and hubby, but every time hubby talks to my grandpa he listens in a different way... He was there calming him and giving him comfort while they were all dripping in sweat as they were inside of the bathroom... After the nurse and my mom finished putting the sonda on and covering the wound (for a lack of a better word), my mom picked some clothes for him, and hubby and the nurse get him clothes, a clean diaper, socks and shoes... Then, I called the security guard from the building to help to get my grandpa down the stairs (my mom lives in a second floor)... They sat him down in a wheelchair and hubby and the security guard take him downstairs (I have no idea how big is my grandpa, but he could be 6 feet and there is no way my mom and the nurse would have been able to get him down the stairs by themselves)....

They all left and I stayed home with the girls... Im not sure of all the details of what happened over there, but my mom told me several times how happy she was with hubby... They did told me that when they got to the hospital, everybody was in "dreamland" and hubby was the one looking for a wheelchair and making the fast moves... My mom was also telling me that at one point she complained with the doctor (his surgeon got there ready for surgery just in case) about nobody helping them... Then, the doctor pointed out hubby and said: "What do you mean? This guy is taking care of you guys very good!"... I wasnt there, but I bet they just laughed cause the doctor simply assumed hubby was part of the hospital's staff the way he was taking care of the things the staff should be taking care of.

Needless to say, they wont be going to that hospital again, but Im very proud and happy that hubby was able to be there and help out... When they got home, my grandpa grabbed hubby by his shoulders, moved his mouth, made some sounds, and moved his hands... That was his way of saying "Thank you".

We have been having a problem with the pipes in my house, and we are having a hard time with lack of water... Today, we had the idea to stop by my dad's house to do laundry... My second nephew Luis Enrique and his mom were there, and we had an awesome time...

We washed, play dominoes, watched TV, had lunch AND dinner, and chat A LOT... I have the impression that Mimi and my dad's wife are going to be very good friends.. Mimi eats like there is no more, and my dad's wife loves to cook. Mimi goes after her like a dog goes after his master... As Mimi is very shy, the only thing that my dad's wife has to do to get Mimi to go to her is to offer her to go to the kitchen!! She will just forget that Im there, and will go happily with her!!! LOL

How I love these days!!!!

Grandpa wanted to take the girls again to HappyLand, and of course how can we refuse that kind of invitation, right? The girls LOVE it with passion, and it is quality time with my dad. I hardly took pictures, because sometimes I just look to see things "live" instead of "throught the camera lens", but I did took a few.... There were two rides that we didnt wanted Camila to get in, but we actually let her this time, and she was cracking up sooo bad!! She was screaming and laughing and everybody was having fun with her.

We got there first than my dad, and while we were waiting for him, we decided to let Mia and Gaby to play on a huge track they have.... Gaby always wanted to give it a try, and this is the first time we let her.... Of course, hubby was having fun too:

Then, we were around and found the place where they had Santa prior to Christmas day... It was still up, but there was nothing to see except for the cute decorations and the girls loved it:

Then, here are a few random pictures after my dad got there... The girls got again and again and again in each ride as there were only a few people... The bumper cars where the ones with most people.....

Then, we went to eat something at the top floor of the mall, and there was a Mickey... It looked like the Mickey from 1928, but it was $3 bucks to take a picture with him, and they also let you use your camera... So, we gave my dad the printed picture and got it also with our camera...

A lot of people doesnt understand why we moved to this country. USA people, dominican people, people in general, there's always have to be somebody asking: "Why did you guys left the states? Why did you guys moved to Dominican Republic?". The truth is that there are several answers to this question.

After I gave birth to Gaby, my mom stayed for over a month in my house and she helped us a lot. After she left, everything was a different story. Being a first time mom without my family and friends was really difficult. I have nobody to call. The only people that I had close by were hubby's parents and sisters, and they were always working a lot and long hours. So, when hubby was working, and I had no idea what to do with Gaby, I had nobody to call, and nobody to ask, and nobody to vent with. So, I was always getting large phone bills with international calls to my mother.

So, you will hear: "we wanted a change", "we wanted to have our own business", "we wanted to be able to have inexpensive maids", "sun and beaches all year long", "no more snow", etc etc etc. But, the real reason is because we wanted the girls to spend their first years surrounded by lots and lots of family. Mostly all my side of the family lives in this country, but only hubby's inmediate family lives in the states. Today, we had one of those days that makes our stay in this country, a happy one.

My dad and his wife came to spend some time with us. My stepmom even played Candy Land with Gaby, and my dad's smile while holding and playing with the girls was priceless (This picture was taken when my dad was leaving, and Gaby was upset, so this was the best shot!! lol)

Then, one of Mimi's godmother's came with her boyfriend to play a bit with the girls. The girls had a blast, and Gaby was even dancing merengue and reggaeton with him

Then, my mom came and invite us for a pizza.... We didnt took pictures, but I have the blog to write that she was here, right??

We buy most of the things online, so I have wishlists to have in one place everything that we are planning (or at least hoping) to buy.
