Cant even remember when was the last time that I did something for my look. I believe the last time I got highlights was after Gaby was born in 2003!!!!

When I started loosing weight a few months ago I decided it was time to let my hair grow and anybody who has done that can relate on how difficult it is. I have been wanting to get highlights since several months ago, however I wanted to wait until my hair was long enough to blow dry it, instead of keeping it wet with gel or leave in.

So, the time had come and my hair was long enough to be blow dried which means highlights were in order! The "before" picture was taken a week or so before the highlights (please, ignore my poor smiling skills for the camera..ugh), and the "after picture" was taken a month after it (on my birthday party) because it was the only picture I could find that actually shows my hair. The hair was also longer and for some reason it looks a bit reddish, however the base is brownish and the highlights are blondish.

We actually rented the new place 2 weeks ago, however today is when we officially emptied the old house and finished moving all the furniture and boxes to the new place. Im not really sure how I will make fit a 2 floor house into this small apartment, but we will manage.

It also has 3 bedrooms plus a little bedroom next to the laundry room (used for maids in this country), however each room is way smaller and now we dont have space for the outdoor toys. We have also given away a lot stuff, and we will be giving away more once we finish unpacking.

Note from June 2010: Over 6 months in the new place and I have to admit that LOTS of boxes are still packed. We have been working hard to unpack those boxes in the last few days, and we wont stop until we finish! Being without "those things" for some many months made me realize that I can actually LIVE without so many things, so we will be getting rid of LOTS and LOTS of stuff that we actually dont need.

When the decision of getting a smaller place was done, we knew one of the most difficult things was going to be giving Sassy away. She was still a puppy, however we knew she was going to grow into a huge dog and it was an impossible thing to think we were gonna be able to keep it in an apartment.

One of my mom's employees offer to take her home and raise her and it was a blessing, because she was going to be able to stay in a place where we can actually go and visit her. They came to pick her up and I felt they were taking away a part of me. We weren't sleeping at the house already, and we were only coming to pack and feed her, which made it easier for the girls. A few months after that, even when they knew she wasnt living there, the girls will continue saying that Sassy was at the old house.

Then, when the girls found out that she was preggo and delivered 3 puppies: they were thrilled!! But that is a whole new post.

*(Post written a few months after it actually happened. Posted on the correct day)

85I knew this was going to be the second task that I was going to complete... After all, it was the easiest.. I just needed a little reminder!

I honestly cant believe that the photos on our about us page and top banner where A YEAR OLD!!!

Anyway, I did it, as you can see on the right side of my top banner, and you can check out the updated About us page here. I didnt change much, and mostly what I did was to update all FIVE ages... Also, added the middle names, and changed that Mia was an Elmo freak to being a Dora and Diego freak.

Just for reference, here is how the top banner looked and then how it looks now... Amazing how much ALL of three of them have changed:
Old:

New:

I read this on another blog, and just a few days ago I was reading the rules at the meme's home. Last weekend we went away, but we really haven’t done a family holiday per se… This is the first time since we are a family of 5 that we planned a long trip. We left today to Princesa Villas in Puerto Plata (North area of the country), and we will be spending here 6 days. Villas Princesa has 5 villas, and we are staying in one of them. We came with the owner (who works at the school), and she will be staying in her own villa… It should be fun as she has to big kids -a girl (12) and a boy (10)- … Im sure it will be tons of fun!!!

Starting this Monday is our Spring Break do to the Holly Week. So, the girls last day of school was yesterday, and they will return to class on Tuesday 14th. We had a great day of settle down, and we cant wait to go around and get to know all the beaches around here.

I also have with me my dad’s camera, so there will be tons of pics (maybe not tons, cause Im trying to keep the camera very low key so I don’t get mugged again).

UPDATED... Here is Mia crying after we left Sassy at the pet's hotel... She was really concerned:

Here is a photo of the road in our way over there:

2. To open an account for each girl and to put the same amount of money monthly in each account. It won’t be much because we are pretty tight, but at least 5 bucks on each account so by the end of the year, we can use that money to buy one Christmas presents for each. This is more to start teaching them to save.
3. To make food-shopping lists and to stick to them

SAFETY AND HEALTH RELATED

It was an awesome day and we had a lot of fun... All the girls (including Mimi) were really excited about going to the beach!! I wanted to leave early as my oldest brother was coming to town today with my nephew Ariel Enrique, so I wanted to come back early. As much as much as I didnt want to leave early, we didnt set up an alarm as I honestly start the day happier if I wake up on my own -even if is early. Anyway, Gaby walked in our room at 7 with her eyes half closed saying: "It's time to go to the beach". I bet she was dreaming all night long about sand and salty water!!

We got ourselves ready and out of the door in less than a hour, and after getting a few things in the store we headed to the beach. The girls sing a song about going to the beach all trip long (version original of the song is about an ugly car that goes on a trip... The girls were singing about "Going to the beach" instead of " Going to a trip"....Original lyric is here).

I spent a lot of time in the sand with Camila as she was not in the mood for the water (same thing as the last time we went), so I got almost 200 photos (if I cant get in the water, I needed to keep myself busy with something, right?).
Photobucket

We got this on our way to the beach and Gaby LOVED it.. She actually spent mostly the whole time playing with it in the water:

We burried daddy under the sand:

I realized TOO late that there was no photos of me... After the beach, we went to visit my friend Luz who was in the country for a week, so I promise to post photos later on of my "red" face when she sent me the ones that she took.

This is not a secret... We ALL have healthy issues... The five of us. This has to change NOW! Everybody keeps telling me this is normal because they are preemies and spent their time in the incubator and so on, but I just cant get used to seeing them sick all the time.

I sat down with the ped and told her that I really needed for us to work this out, and make exams to my girls from head to toe to make sure everything is fine, and nothing is not working right. We decided that February and March will be for the girls, and April and May will be for hubby and I.

You guys know me... I LOVE lists. So, I decided to make a list of all the tests and specialists they girls will go throught in the next days and weeks.

Amelia - The Pink Bud Photobucket
* She has been getting frequent colds, and had tonsilitis two times in between mid December and mid January.
* She is also showing signs of lazy eye in her left eye.
* Another thing is that she gets frequent and VERY serious rashes that only go away with a very strong cream (Desitin is like a joke for her). She has a very sensitive skin.

Action Plan:
1 - CAT Scan to check for Sinusitis
2 - Check up with an Eye Doctor
3 - Check up with a pediatric Dermatologist

Camila - The Red Bud
Photobucket* Every cold ends up with an asthma episode, and this last time she ended up with bronchopneumonia. She has had 3 episodes in the last 6 months.
* She has recurrent diarrhea and ocassional vomiting since she was 12 months old. She now has abdominal distention.
* Every blood work that she had in her life has shown a little bit of iron deficiency, even though she eats just fine (better that Gaby who doesnt have any low levels of red blood cells).
* She doesnt know her colors. She is still on the age where it may be normal, but one never knows. She knows her shapes, positions and talks like a parrot, but she cant tell the colors.

Action Plan:
1 - X-Ray to check for Sinusitis and Adenoids
2 - Buy Humidifier or Vaporizer to sleep (still need to find out which option is better for her)
3 - Ultrasound to check if she has any enlarged organ to produce the abdominal distention
4 - Test for tolerance to Lactose, Gluten and Soy (Those are 6 tests, 4 of those are RAST to milk proteins, and the other two are RAST to Soy, and RAST to Gluten).
5 - Disaccharides Test and Digestion Test... Both done with stools
6 - Check up with the Eye Doctor
7 - Blood work to check on the platelets level

Gabriela - The Purple Bud
Photobucket* She has enlarged adenoids and sinusitis. She needs to be re-check now that she is 5 to consider surgery. She has frequent otitis and tonsilitis with no fever or pain.
* Her colds ends up with wheezing, but this may be related to the enlarged adenoids.
* Gaby's bull legs havent improved at all... She is now walking worse than ever. She also complains about leg pains sometimes.
* The principal and psicologist at school noticed that Gaby is showing lazy eye in the "good eye". I have heard that this happens to some kids, but I need to ask what to do.
* She continues to have misbehavior at school. Not everyday, but still more than the average misbehavior.
* From time to time she complains about a pain in her leg.
* She gets frequent vaginal discharge, we assume it is because her lack of good cleaning when she goes by herself to the bathroom.

Action Plan:
1 - X-Ray to check for Sinusitis and Adenoids
2 - Check up with the new ENT doctor
3 - Check up with a new orthopedist for a second opinion and tell him that she sometimes complains of leg pain.
4 - Follow up with her eye doctor
5 - Call the new psicologist to find out about group therapies.
6 - Resume with the tests prescribed by the neurologist. EEG, Head MRI, plus some blood work with several tests.
7 - Vaginal culture exam

It may seem like a lot to take, but Im positive that things will be easier as soon as we have some answers... It is not easy to deal with something when you dont have an actual diagnosis, and always gets a comment of what it "could" be.

I will keep the blog updated about this.

I was checking out last year's resolution, and we didnt accomplish LOTS of them... That was not the plan (as Im very eager to follow with what I decide to), but I think we have grown so much as a family and as individuals that in overall I think the 2008 gave us LOTS of lessons learned.

This year I will be a bit more strict with our resolutions, and I will be going over them at the start of every season (Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter). There are some that were from last year that we didnt accomplish, and that I plan to do starting now!
